Investigation of Thermo-Hydraulic Performances of Artificial Ribs Mounted in a Rectangular Duct

This research investigates the fluid flow characterization and thermohydraulic performances (THP) of rib surfaces, using computational experimental methods. ANSYS dynamics (CFD) software was used to predict validate findings in setup. Artificial including polygonal forward trapezoidal-shaped ribs, were placed absorber plate at different relative pitch distances (p/e) = 6.7, 10, 13.4 height (e/d) 20, mass rate air (working fluid) varied Reynolds numbers ranging from 2000 20,000. According validation results, RNG renormalization k-ε model selected for investigation. The results show that strong turbulence occured closer wall surface behind surface, enhancing thermal due sharp edge shape rib. A with a distance p/e 6.7 achieved higher Nusselt number (Nu) performance 2.95 Re 4000. An empirical correlation between friction factor (f) developed linear regression analysis compared predicted values. comparison close range ±8%
